Can I mount it to a rail?

Yes. Standard 1913-pattern rail interface, recoil-tested housing, onboard reticle system so it keeps its setting across sessions.

Clip-on: how does the in-line setup work?

Runs in-line ahead of your existing optic. Your setup stays exactly as you had it, so your day setting holds.

What battery does it take and how long does it run?

An internal USB-C rechargeable battery runs approx 4 to 5 hours, and the included swappable 16340 cell adds approx 1.5 to 2 more per cell. The 16340 ships as its own package, so it may land before or after your unit. Remove the 16340 before charging over USB-C.

What recoil is it rated for?

The PREDATOR is recoil-tested and rated for platforms up to .308 class. Heavier-recoiling setups, magnum and 12 gauge class, are beyond the rating and are not covered by warranty.

Is it legal to hunt with?

Varies by state and species. Check your local regulations. Buyer responsibility.

What if it shows up and I don't love it?

Thermal or night vision: which should I buy first?

Thermal for detection and scanning. Analog for identification and movement. Many operators run both.

Do I need both lenses?

For headworn scanning and close terrain, the included 4mm does the job. For reach and distance ID you want the 13mm. FULL LOADOUT includes it and costs less than adding the lens to MOUNT KIT separately.

Can I swap lenses in the field?

Yes, by hand in seconds, no tools. Swap with the unit powered down and cap the open thread.

How is this different from the HEAT?

HEAT is our $649 headworn scanner. PREDATOR adds the recoil-tested housing, in-line clip-on capability, the onboard reticle, and improved sensor. If all you want is headworn scanning, the HEAT is still the right buy.

03/WHAT THERMAL ACTUALLY DOES

Night vision amplifies light. Thermal sees heat.

Analog night vision needs ambient light and shows you the scene. Thermal needs nothing. It reads heat straight off bodies, engines, and ground, in total darkness, through fog, light brush, and camouflage.

Nothing warm hides. A hog in a brush line, a coyote in tall grass, a person on your property at 2 a.m.: they glow.

Scanning and detection are where thermal dominates. The limits are listed below, in plain language.

With a holographic optic the eye relief is longer, so the view through the clip-on is more tunnelled, with less field of view. It works, but the LPVO image is better.

One honest note on height: this class of holographic optic puts its optical centerline at roughly 1.74 inches above the rail, not 1.54. The PREDATOR sits slightly lower, so you will not be able to make full use of the glass centered. No riser exists for it right now. Use the PREDATOR's digital reticle for alignment, as covered in the note below.

SETUP B · LPVO ON A CANTILEVER MOUNTOUR RECOMMENDATION

We highly recommend running an LPVO behind the clip-on. Your eye sits right up against the glass, so you get much more field of view and a clearer, fuller image.

A NOTE ON ALIGNMENT

With holographic optics and magnifiers, an aftermarket riser may be necessary to achieve a more perfect center. Otherwise you will likely rely on the PREDATOR's digital reticle rather than your day optic's reticle, since the optics are not perfectly collimated. The standard we hold: align on the digital reticle, floating roughly around the center of your actual LPVO or holographic reticle. We got it really close, but we cannot guarantee alignment through multiple optics, so use the digital reticle. And the digital reticle is not bad.

Most thermals in this class have never seen a proof test. We ran the PREDATOR through heavy recoil, shot after shot, including punishment hard enough to tear the mount clean off the platform.
